The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Seven is in the process of installing four new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons on Busch Boulevard in Tampa, providing more options for people walking to safely cross the busy roadway. To support this effort, Bike/Walk Tampa Bay, as part of its Walk Bike Drive program, produced two safety PSA videos featuring FDOT employee, Craig Fox.
In the first video, Mr. Fox reminds motorists to “drive slow in work zones so we all get home.” With the installation of the new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons nearly complete, a second safety video is now also being promoted; Mr. Fox educates motorists about what the beacon lights indicate and how to comply with applicable crosswalk laws. Both videos are in English and Spanish.
The two safety PSA videos are being distributed to the public through social media and by local stakeholders. To support the videos’ safety messaging, the Walk Bike Drive campaign for Busch Boulevard also includes billboards, informational cards, mailers, and quizzes with safety education to help spread the word about the new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons and protecting the roadway construction workers installing them.
