With heartfelt gratitude and congratulations, Bike/Walk Tampa Bay (BWTB) says goodbye to our founding leader, Jane Castor, who has recently been elected Mayor for the City of Tampa. Prior to winning the election, Jane served for four years as the founding chair of the BWTB Advisory Board of Directors, helping the organization and its leaders lay a roadmap forward for safer walking and bicycling in the region.

During the ceremonial segment of the Summit, BWTB presented Jane with a custom plaque, carved from alder wood. She expressed gratitude for being chosen to serve as chair and promised to help continue to make Tampa more bike-friendly as the city’s mayor.

Jane is a Tampa native who attended the University of Tampa where she earned a bachelor’s of science degree in criminology. Jane also holds a Master’s of Public Administration from Troy State University. She served 31 years in the Tampa Police Department, becoming its first female chief in 2009, before retiring in May of 2015. She was elected Mayor of the City of Tampa on April, 23 2019. She is the proud mother of two teenage boys
