In 2015, Governor Rick Scott signed a proclamation for Crossing Guard Appreciation Day. The first line of the proclamation reads: “Every school day, thousands of dedicated crossing guards assist our children across busy streets as they arrive and depart from school.”
School crossing guards contribute to the health and well-being of our communities in many ways. They might tell everyone they meet on the street to have a nice day. They often smile and wave. But most importantly, they work hard to make sure our school children cross the roads carefully and stay safe.
Crossing Guard Appreciation Day is a time to express our gratitude and recognize our crossing guards for all that they do. Our most outstanding crossing guards and crossing guard programs will be presented with the 2015 School Crossing Guard of the Year/2015 School Crossing Guard Program of the Year Award. The winners will be announced and honored on Friday, February 5th, 2016.
TALLAHASSEE – Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Safety Office announces Friday, February 5, 2016, as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day to recognize the hard work and dedication of those individuals who keep Florida’s schoolchildren safe as they go to and from school.
