On Friday, October 20, 2017, Bike/Walk Tampa Bay (BWTB) will host its Fall Regional Summit at the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Education and Conference Center in St. Petersburg to celebrate recent accomplishments and plan next steps. The event kicks off at 4pm with a bicycle ride led by Lucas Cruse, Bicyclist and Pedestrian Coordinator for the City of St. Petersburg, presenting those in attendance with the opportunity to squeeze a little fun and exercise into a busy day.
After the ride, guests are invited to enjoy refreshments while networking with community members, government officials, and local advocates. Kent McWaters, Vice Chair, will welcome attendees along with St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, Whit Blanton, Executive Director of Forward Pinellas and Kimberly Berfield, VP of Government & Community Affairs for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. The event will then focus on regional progress, including a presentation of St. Petersburg’s exciting new Complete Streets Implementation Plan, and reports on the coalition’s progress as we work toward priorities we have identified for the region in Engineering, Encouragement, Enforcement, Education, and Evaluation (“the five E’s”).
Before the evening’s end, local National Bike Challenge participants will be recognized at an awards ceremony led by BWTB Program Director, Julie Bond and BWTB Board member Ben Montgomery. The event will conclude with a celebration of the Florida Bicycle Association’s 20th anniversary, cake included! “We are so happy with the work everyone is doing to improve biking and walking in the Tampa Bay Area,” says Bond. “We are excited to discuss where we have been and where we are headed next, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and celebrating our continued progress. It’s amazing what we can do when we all work together as a coalition.”
