Drive on Park Boulevard? New campaign launches to improve safety

Example of a billboard being installed on Park Boulevard to remind motorists to stop for pedestrians at HAWK crosswalks.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Seven recently installed three Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons, also known as HAWK crosswalks, on Park Boulevard, providing more options for people walking to safely cross the busy roadway.

Bike/Walk Tampa Bay is launching an education campaign as part of its Walk Bike Drive program for motorists driving along the corridor. An informational card about what motorists should do when they encounter the new signals was mailed to residents in the area. In addition, billboards along Park will have messaging telling drivers to stop for people crossing. A short quiz will be soon be launched to test residents’ knowledge of how the beacons work.
