This year, children and families attended their very own bicycle event in Temple Terrace in honor of Florida Bike Month. On the morning of Saturday, March 2, 2019, the day after the Sixth Annual Bike with the Mayor event, the City of Temple Terrace, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and Bike/Walk Tampa Bay hosted a Kids Bike Rodeo & Family Ride at the Family Recreation Complex. Volunteers, including USF students, led children through a fun “bike rodeo” obstacle course where kids were able to hone their skills and practice maneuvering around cones while riding bicycles. Before participating, volunteers who have been certified to fit bike helmets checked children’s helmets and made any needed adjustments to help ensure the event was a safe and fun experience for everyone. “This type of event provides a fun way for kids to learn about bicycling,” said Julie Bond, Program Director for Bike/Walk Tampa Bay. “It is important to get kids thinking about bicycle safety at an early age to build good habits.”
Following the rodeo portion of the event, families were invited to join a slow-paced group ride around Temple Terrace.
