Tampa Bay Bicycle Friendly Businesses go the extra distance to help those in need

WellBuilt Bikes receives recognition for being an outstanding Bicycle Friendly Business.

Being named a Bicycle Friendly BusinessSM (BFB) by the League of American Bicyclists is a notable accomplishment. At the recent Summer Summit, BWTB honored six local BFBs that are also going above and beyond being bicycle friendly by making bicycling available and safer for the socio-economically disadvantaged.

Please give thanks to the following organizations who are making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate:

  • Buddy Brew Coffee – for their support of onbikes, and offering a discount to customers who show up with their bike helmets.
  • Cigar City Brewing Co. – teamed with CAN’d Aid foundation out of Colorado and donated 101 bikes and helmets to the entire first grade class of Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary.
  • McKibbon Hospitality – In addition to supporting onbikes, donated 40 bikes to Metropolitan Ministries and helped set up a bike-share system exclusively for their families in transition.
  • St. Petersburg Bicycle Co-op – hosts mobile pop-up events in low-income, underserved neighborhoods to teach children about bicycle maintenance and safety, providing helmets, locks, lights and basic bike repairs.
  • UACDC, Inc. – Frequently hosts bike rodeos and WalkWise/BikeSmart presentations, assists with local Mort Elementary’s “Walking School Bus”, and helps provide infrastructure in the Uptown Tampa area.
  • WellBuilt Bikes – “Earn-A-Bike” program helps those who cannot afford to buy a bicycle earn one by volunteering with the shop. Also partners with Pepin Academies and Eckerd Connects to teach a new generation about becoming bike mechanics.
