On Thursday, May 23 the Tampa Downtown Partnership and Bike/Walk Tampa Bay hosted a Bike to Work Day Ride and Rally during National Bike Month! Riders started out from seven different meeting points and rode into downtown Tampa in small groups, converging at Lykes Gaslight Park for the rally. This time, newly elected City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor led one of the groups. Riders received collectible t-shirts, enjoyed light refreshments, and took the Tampa Bay Commuters Pledge.
At the rally, Mayor Castor spoke about how much progress Tampa had made in becoming more bicycle friendly, and promised as mayor to continue the momentum, acknowledging the four years she had spent as the chair of Bike/Walk Tampa Bay.
Also at the rally, several downtown businesses were acknowledged for receiving a Bicycle Friendly Business designation from the League of American Bicyclists. The future of bicycling in Tampa and the region is looking bright!
