Holiday Lights Ride showcases Tampa infrastructure, Bicycle Friendly Businesses

Bicyclists ride through a protected two-way cycle track in Downtown Tampa

On Friday, December 7, 2019 the Tampa Downtown Partnership, City of Tampa, Pedal Power Promoters, the Florida Department of Transportation and Bike/Walk Tampa Bay partnered to host the second annual Holiday Lights Ride. Before the ride, attendees signed up for the Love To Ride program, and participated in a “Best Decorated” contest. The winner received a gift-card to one of the city’s many Bicycle Friendly Businesses. The City of Tampa Police Department provided an escort for the group on the short bicycle ride that took them through the streets of downtown Tampa, showcasing infrastructure like the Jackson Street and Cass Street cycle tracks. Two Wheel Bike Valet offered free bicycle parking after the ride for the annual tree-lighting ceremony.

“Over 100 festive riders on the second annual Holiday Lights Ride experienced some of the premier bike infrastructure in Tampa’s Downtown,” said Karen Kress, AICP, Director of Transportation for the Tampa Downtown Partnership and a member of the BWTB Steering Committee. “We were thrilled to draw attention to the fact that Tampa ranks #2 in the country for the number of certified Bicycle Friendly Businesses!”
