“Tours aren’t just for tourists!”
This is the motto of History Bike Tampa, launched in 2013. The organization is dedicated to telling the history of Tampa through themed guided bicycle tours. And, now, History Bike Tampa is showcasing how far we have come.
Five years ago, the City’s InVision plan to improve our communities was put into action. “Center City Tampa will be a community of livable places, connected people, and collaborative progress that embraces and celebrates its river and waterfront,” the City’s website says.
“When we realized it was the 5 year anniversary of the City’s InVision Center City Plan, we knew it had to be celebrated,” said Karen Kress, Director of Transportation at the Tampa Downtown Partnership. “Of the 106 actions listed, 79 have been completed or are underway, representing a 74.5% overall implementation rate to date,” she added.
The Tampa Downtown Partnership joined forces with History Bike Tampa to introduce our burgeoning urban core and allow people to get a firsthand look at the progress we have made. “We kicked it off in April, covering east of the river, and then followed in May (during National Bike Month), covering west of the river,” said Kress. Hillsborough County Commissioner Pat Kemp, Tampa City Council Member Mike Suarez, and the Tampa Police Department all joined in on the tours.
