On May 19, 2017 about 80 attendees converged on downtown Clearwater to celebrate National Bike to Work Day for the inaugural Bike Your City event.

About 40 cyclists rode the four-mile route created by Forward Pinellas, Pinellas County’s land use and transportation planning agency. The event was hosted by the City of Clearwater, Bike/Walk Tampa Bay staff assisted with logistics and event promotion and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office’s bike unit provided traffic control for the ride.

Additional partners included the Florida Bicycle Association, The Path Bicycle and Ride Shop, Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources, Einstein Brothers Bagels, the Florida Department of Transportation, and Bike Florida.

“We were extremely excited about the number of elected officials, bicycling enthusiasts, and local residents who came to downtown Clearwater to help us celebrate National Bike to Work Day,” said Rodney Chatman, Forward Pinellas planning division manager. “The event exceeded our expectations and was an excellent opportunity to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.”

Next year, the event will move to a new city so that riders can celebrate the many reasons to ride and experience another of Pinellas County’s vibrant downtowns on their bicycles.
