The League of American Bicyclists (the “League”) has just released their latest list of certified Bicycle Friendly BusinessesSM – the results are great news for the Tampa Bay region. With many people working remotely due to COVID-19, the crossroads between bicycling and local business is all the more important as people take to the streets on two wheels to run errands and conduct their daily business closer to home. Businesses that support bicyclists make this mode shift easier and more convenient for their customers and employees.
According to the League’s report, Tampa and St. Petersburg are in the top three cities nationwide with the most Bicycle Friendly Businesses (“BFBs”). Tampa held fast to its position as number two in the country, boasting 58 total BFBs. St. Petersburg, which previously held fifth position, jumped up to number three, tailing Tampa with 45 total BFBs.
“To see Tampa and St. Petersburg rank second and third, respectively, in the nation in numbers of certified BFBs is evidence of the desire for bikes as part of a multimodal transportation offering in our region,” shared Christine Acosta, BWTB advisory board member and owner of Pedal Power Promoters, LLC which has been actively involved in helping Tampa Bay businesses become more bike friendly.
Congratulations to the latest businesses to join the local BFB ranks!
