A sneak preview of our upcoming Summer Summit!

The 2019 BWTB Summer Summit is almost here! If you’ve attended one of our past Summits, you’ll notice a few changes for this very exciting event. Instead of an evening session, we have assembled a five-hour intensive program with presentations by local leaders who will offer an in-depth look at the status of walking and bicycling in the Tampa Bay region.

A few highlights include…

  • We will be presenting several awards, including the Michael R. Schwaid Bicyclist of the Year award to one of the many outstanding individuals helping progress safety and access to bicycling in Tampa Bay.
  • Did you know that it wasn’t until 2009 that not wearing a seatbelt while traveling in a vehicle became a primary law? Keynote Secretary David Gwynn, FDOT District Seven, will speak about the ten-year anniversary of the Florida Seat Belt Law and Proclamation.
  • We will be honoring Jane Castor, founding chair of Bike/Walk Tampa Bay and newly elected Mayor of Tampa, as she says farewell after four years of service to the Board.
  • Hear welcoming remarks from Commissioner Mariella Smith, Hillsborough County District Five (countywide).
  • Tampa Bay leaders will discuss future opportunities and challenges for Uptown Tampa, including an emphasis on transportation and how to move people from point to point.
  • Learn how advocates in other parts of Florida are advancing walking and bicycling in their communities in a very special panel featuring lessons learned from around the state.

Your registration includes refreshments and hot lunch. Registration proceeds directly benefit those who walk and bike in our region by helping us host events such as iCan Bike, distributing safety information and equipment, and supporting walking and bicycle-friendly initiatives across the region.

Don’t miss this very special event. We hope to see you there!
