Remembering Sam Lougheed

Sam Lougheed, founder and owner of Sam’s Bike Worx, LLC, passed away on June 2, 2018. Educated as a plumber, he had a love for all things mechanical, especially bicycles and motorcycles. His dream was to own his own bike shop. As part of that dream, he started Sam’s Bike Worx, a mobile bicycle repair service four years ago. Sam and his trailer started popping up at bicycle events all over the region, such as the annual Bike with the Temple Terrace Mayor ride. Soon he also started offering bicycle valet at events, like the Cycling for Autism ride.

Sam was a valuable partner of the Bike/Walk Tampa Bay Coalition. In addition to providing minor bike tune-ups and air for bike tires, he often helped administer WalkWise quizzes and installed bicycle lights on bikes at events where he was set up.

Sam also loved riding his own bicycle as much as he enjoyed working on others. A frequent participant in Critical Mass Tampa Bay, he started his own Critical Mass ride in Temple Terrace. The ride has since been taken over by Jonathan Forbes of Temple Terrace, who will be leading “Sam’s Ride” on June 27, 2018 in Sam’s honor. More details on that ride can be found here.

Donations in Sam’s name can be made to either WellBuilt Bikes, 12256 University Mall Ct., Tampa, FL 33612 or the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center, 440 N. Falkenburg Rd., Tampa, FL 33619.
