Critical Mass is an informal, international movement brought by bicycle enthusiasts to their respective communities around the world to promote awareness of alternative forms of transportation through visibility. In short, the more visibility bicyclists get, the more that means of transportation will be taken seriously by our city leaders.
Critical Mass is simply a bicycle ride predominantly attended by the “casual” cyclist. The Mass will average 10 mph on these rides and the track will run around 10 miles, so expect to ride for one hour. All ages, all skill levels are expected and welcome at monthly rides.
In Temple Terrace the fourth Wednesday at 7PM will serve as the date/time for the approximate one hour casual ride around Greater Temple Terrace with a stop, from time to time, at area landmarks and/or local businesses. The Mass may have other events or join other events on different dates and those will be posted.
Bicyclists, including those who ride with the Critical Mass, should know, and are responsible for complying with, the rules of the road…including rules specifically written for bicyclists. It is not the responsibility of any individual rider to monitor any other rider’s compliance with laws.
Bicyclists who ride with the Critical Mass ride entirely at their own risk. The responsibility for each rider’s safety, fitness and the soundness of the bicycle resides solely and exclusively with that rider.
–Kickstands must be up and bicycles rolling PROMPTLY at the start time.
–Please, keep it tight people!
–Decisions to ride under various inclement weather conditions will be made by the riders at the start location before the start time. Participants are expected by the Mass to always use good judgment to decide what conditions they are comfortable riding in.
–Rides will not be postponed or rescheduled. The Mass rides monthly so if a ride is cancelled for whatever reason, the Mass will just look forward to next month’s ride.
–Lighting, particularly red rear lighting, is highly recommended at all times to increase the visibility of our group.
