Florida Bicycle Association names Lucy Gonzalez Educator of the Year

Congratulations to Lucy Gonzalez, Safe Routes to School Coordinator, who has just been named the 2018 Educator of the Year by Florida Bicycle Association. In addition to coordinating Safe Routes to School programs for Marion, Lake, and Sumter counties in Florida, Lucy regularly assists Bike/Walk Tampa Bay with on-the-street education and other outreach activities. Lucy also goes out of her way to teach girls and young women to be confident while riding bikes, empowering the next generation of female bicyclists.

Each year, Florida Bicycle Association, the designated statewide advocacy and lobbying organization, presents awards to worthy recipients for their contributions to improving bicycling in Florida. In addition to acknowledging the considerable contributions of individuals who are working hard for the betterment of bicycling, the awards bring attention to the efforts and achievements of other groups and organizations helping shape the future of bicycling in Florida.

“I want to express my sincere appreciation and thanks to the Florida Bicycle Association for recognizing my commitment and dedication by presenting me with the 2018 Educator Award of the Year,” said Lucy. “I am truly humbled and honored to receive it. What a gift it is to continue to make an impact on the community by providing such a valuable and life-long skill to so many families and kids.”

Bike/Walk Tampa Bay applauds Lucy for all her hard work! Through her vast involvement with the community, she is improving bicycling for riders of all ages in Tampa Bay and beyond.
